Sharing, shops and money settings
Setting up your campaign · guide 4 of 5
These settings decide what your players see when you add something new, and how buying, selling and reward gold work, so the money side of your game looks after itself.
On your campaign's Build page, press Settings. Sharing sits at the bottom of the At the table card.
Start shared with players
Start shared with players. This sets whether new NPCs, places and quests start shared with your players, or hidden from them.
Choose here to set all three at once, or change one of the rows below on its own. Shared NPCs start as met by the party, and shared places as discovered, so they show on the players' People and places tab. Shared quests show on their Quests tab straight away.
Keep them hidden if you like to reveal things as you go. Share them if you'd rather not switch each one on by hand.
It only sets how each new one starts. You can still share or hide any of them yourself, and the ones you already have don't change.
Shops and money
Next, the third card, Shops and money.
Buying
Players can buy from shops. On, players buy for themselves on their Shop tab, paying from their own gold. Off, they can still see the shop and its prices, but only you can buy for them.
Selling
Players can sell to shops. Pick what a shop pays, from a quarter of an item's listed value up to the full amount. Half is the usual rule, and the shop must have the gold to pay. Off, only you can sell for them.
Buying back
Anyone can buy back a sold item. A sold item stays in the shop, at the price it fetched, until the party moves on. Off, only the player who sold it can buy it back. On, anyone in the party can.
Prices and reputation
Prices follow faction reputation. On, each step of the party's reputation with the shopkeeper's faction moves prices by five percent. A good reputation makes things cheaper, and a bad one dearer. Off, reputation leaves prices alone.
Reward gold
Reward gold. This is where gold from encounters, puzzles and quests goes when you hand out a reward. Party pool puts it all in the party's shared gold. Split shares it equally between the characters at the table, and anything left over goes to the pool, saving you doing the sums.
Like every setting, each one has Default, which follows your account defaults, and each change saves the moment you make it.
That's sharing, shops and money. Set them once, and Critsmith keeps the books for you.
