Fights on the Run screen
Running a session · guide 4 of 7
When a scene has a fight in it, you run that fight right here on the Run screen. No jumping between pages, so the game never stalls.
The fight in your scene
Run the scene, and the combat line shows the fight's name, not started, and who's in it. Running the scene also shares the fight with your players, but it never starts the fight on its own. You decide when it begins.
Add combatants
Missing someone? Add combatants stays open until the fight has both player characters and something to fight. Press Add all to bring in the whole party, or add anyone else you need.
Roll initiative
Next, initiative. Press Auto roll initiative for everyone but the players.
Then type each player's roll into their Initiative box as they call it out, and press Set. Tick Surprised for anyone caught off guard.
Start the fight
When everyone's ready, press Start combat. The whole tracker opens inside the scene box: the round, Next turn, End combat, and every combatant in initiative order, with the first turn marked.
Run the fight
Run the fight just as you would on its own page. Damage, healing, conditions and stat blocks all work here, and every press brings you straight back to the row you were working on. Press Next turn, and the screen moves to whoever's turn it is. Running a fight has its own guide: Running a fight.
Hide the fight
Need the rest of the scene? Press Hide the fight. The box folds to one line with the round and how many are fighting. Press Show the fight to bring it back.
End the fight
When the last foe falls, press End combat. The box goes back to one line, marked ended, and the session log writes the fight's result for you.
Give the rewards
Then come the fight's rewards. If your campaign levels by XP, Critsmith adds up the XP from the hostile creatures' stat blocks and splits it between the player characters who fought. You can change the amount before you give it. If the fight came from an encounter you prepared, its gold and items are offered too.
Press Give, and it's done. The XP goes on each character, the session log notes it, and the box confirms what was given. Fair rewards, without the maths.
Not ready to hand it out? Press Not now. The offer closes, and you can still give XP later from Party gold, loot and levelling.
Roll, start, fight and reward, all without leaving your scene.
