Exporting and importing
Managing your campaigns · guide 2 of 4
Exporting saves a whole campaign as a file on your computer. Importing brings that file back as a campaign, so your work is never locked away.
Export a campaign
On Your campaigns, every campaign has three export buttons: JSON, MD and PDF. They work on any campaign, even one that's shelved or in the vault, where they're inside Details.
Press one, and the file downloads straight away, named after the campaign and today's date.
Choose a format
Each format has its own job. PDF is for reading or printing. MD is plain text you can open in most notes apps.
JSON is the one to keep safe. It holds everything, and it's the only one Critsmith can import. That makes it a great backup, and a way to move a campaign to a new account.
Import a campaign
To import, go to the box under your campaigns and press Choose export. Pick the JSON file you saved, and its name appears beside the button. Then press Import.
Critsmith builds a brand new campaign from the file. It never changes or merges into one you already have.
The new campaign is marked Imported for its first day, so you can tell it apart from the original.
It counts as one of your active campaigns, so if you're at your plan's limit, shelve one first.
Character sheets and how often you can import
Character sheets come across too, but they're no longer linked to your players' accounts, so send each player a new invite.
On the Free plan, you can import one campaign every 90 days. Paid plans have no wait.
Keep a JSON backup of every world you build, and it's never more than a click away.
