Every campaign has its own settings, so it runs the way your table plays. Here are the four about characters, and how to set your defaults once for every campaign.
Open your campaign's settings
On your campaign's Build page, press Settings.
SettingsHow this campaign runs: levelling, shop buy-back. Changes your defaults for this campaign only.
The Settings tile on the Build page
The first card, Characters, holds four settings. Each change saves the moment you make it, so there's no Save button to forget.
The four character settings
Levelling. With Milestone, you decide when the party levels up, and grant it from the Party screen. With XP, you give experience points, and players level up once they have enough.
Ability scores at creation. Pick point buy, standard array or rolled, or let each player choose. The guided character creator then uses it, so nobody has to look up the rules.
Hit points after level 1.Average fills it in, Roll lets the player type their roll, and Maximum gives the most the die allows. Level 1 always gets the full hit die.
Players change spells and Weapon Mastery.By the class rules lets players change them only when their class allows, such as after a Long Rest. Any time lets players change them freely.

Hit points after level 1
How many hit points a character gains for each level after the first, when levelling up and when a character is created above level 1. Level 1 is always the full hit die. The Constitution modifier is added every level.
Average: the die's average, filled in for the player (for example 6 on a d10).
Roll: the player rolls and types the result, kept within what the die could roll.
Maximum: the most the die can roll, every level.

The line under the title counts how many settings this campaign changes from your defaults.
And Reset to account defaults puts them all back on Default. Press Reset to confirm, or Cancel.
